Terms of Service

Last updated July 30, 2026

These terms are a short, honest agreement between you and DotNotes ("we", "us") about using the DotNotes app and this website. By using DotNotes, you agree to them. If anything here is unclear, ask us at withlove@dotnotes.app.

Your account

DotNotes needs an account — it's what keeps your writing tied to you and lets it follow you to a new phone. Creating one takes your name, an email address and a password. Give us accurate details and keep that password to yourself; what happens under your account is your responsibility. You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age in your country) to create one.

Your content is yours

Everything you write in DotNotes belongs to you. We claim no ownership of it, ever. So that the app can work, you give us one narrow permission: to store, back up, and transmit your content between your devices and your account, solely to operate the service. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account. We don't read your notes, and nothing you write is ever public.

Fair use of the service

Please use DotNotes only for what it's for. You agree not to:

The service

We work hard to keep DotNotes reliable, but it's provided as is, without warranties of any kind. Features may change or be improved over time; sync requires an internet connection and may occasionally be interrupted. Your notes always remain on your device, and Export in Settings lets you keep your own copy — we encourage it.

Ending things

You can stop using DotNotes at any time, and you can delete your account from Settings whenever you like — your synced data goes with it. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or harms the service or other users; where reasonable, we'll warn you first.

Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for loss of data caused by events outside our reasonable control. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited, or affects the statutory rights you have as a consumer where you live.

App Store

When you download DotNotes from the Apple App Store, Apple's standard licensed-application terms also apply. Apple is not a party to these terms and has no responsibility for the app or its content — questions and support come to us, not Apple.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect. Continuing to use DotNotes after that means you accept the updated terms.
