Privacy Policy

DotNotes exists so you can write things you'd never post anywhere. That only works if you can trust where the words go. This policy is written in plain language on purpose — it says everything the app does with your data, and everything it doesn't. It applies to the DotNotes app and this website.

What DotNotes collects

DotNotes collects only what it needs to work:

• Account details. Your name (a surname too, if you give one), your email address, and a password (stored only as a secure hash — we never see it).
• Your content. The notes, diary pages, sparks, to-dos and their steps, events, photos, and any files you attach to a to-do.
• Settings. Preferences like your accent colour and whether you've pinned light or dark mode, kept on your device.

That's the whole list. DotNotes has no analytics or advertising SDKs, does not track you across apps or websites, and collects no location, contacts, or browsing data.

Where your content lives

Everything you write is stored in a database on your device — one per account, so the app works fully offline and nothing waits for a connection. Your content also syncs to your own account on our servers so you can move phones without losing a word. Sync traffic is encrypted in transit and encrypted at rest, photos and attached files are held in private storage reachable only through short-lived links, and each account's rows are walled off at the database level so no account can read another's.

We use Supabase as our hosting and database provider; it processes your data on our behalf and under our instructions, solely to provide the service. We do not share your data with anyone else, and we never sell it.

Voice notes

When you dictate a note, DotNotes turns your voice into text. Languages installed on your phone are transcribed on the device itself; other languages are transcribed by the operating system's speech service (such as Apple's), which receives the audio for that purpose. The resulting text becomes part of your note like anything else you type. You'll see the standard system permission prompt before any of this happens.

Calendar, photos, and notifications

If you allow it, events you plan in DotNotes are written into your phone's own calendar so they appear in Apple and Google Calendar too. DotNotes can also read your phone's own events to show them alongside your own; they are read on the device and never sent to our servers. Photos come from your library, and files from your documents, only when you pick them. Reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device — they don't pass through our servers. All of these permissions are optional; the app works without them.

Your rights and your control

• Export. You can export everything you've written, any time, from Settings.
• Delete content. A deleted note moves to Settings → Recently Deleted, where you can restore it or choose Delete Forever, which erases its text and its photos for good.
• Delete your account. Settings → Delete Account removes your account and your synced content from our servers. This is available in the app itself — no email required.
• Ask us anything. To access, correct, export, or erase your data, or to raise a concern, write to withlove@dotnotes.app.

We keep your data only as long as you keep your account. When you delete your account, your synced data is deleted from our servers; residual copies in encrypted backups roll off shortly after.

What we don't do

We don't sell your data, show you ads, profile you, or read your notes. There is no feed, no followers, and nothing in DotNotes is public — ever. Your content is used for one thing: showing it back to you.

Children

DotNotes is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country), and we don't knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we ever change how DotNotes handles your data, we'll update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect. A change will never quietly weaken what's promised here.
